Forlagets omtale: This book discusses some of the assumptions about legal reasoning underlying work on legal expert systems. The various assumptions are illustrated by examples from Dutch statutes and case law. The book also discusses the famous Chisholm-paradox in Standard Deontic Logic. Various proposals for systems of deontic logic are analysed wiht a view to how they handle the notion of "violability" and "defeasibility". The book was recently defended as the author's doctoral thesis. With refereces and index.
