Innhold: | Abstract This brief presentation identifies three politically-distinct periods within the last100 years of Nordic penal policy. The first was a period of reform and optimismregarding possibilities for »curing« offenders. The second was a period of disappointment as the hopes for treatment were unfulfilled. At the same time, however, alternatives to the old sanctions, especially prison, were being promoted. Thethird period emerged in the last couple of decades as penal policy became increasingly politicized and popularized. Three periods can also be seen in regardto research and Nordic cooperation. The presentation ends by identifying themost important advances and setbacks in criminal policy during the last 100 years. |
