| Innhold: | A single Icelandic scheme was established by legislation in 1998 to determine the status of property in land – beyond privately held land – in a systematic way throughout the entire island.1 This is an attempt to untangle land ownership ambiguities in rural land zones where land has been variously recognized as either ownerless land, land commons, or private land. Under the Icelandic scheme the case proceedings are initiated before an administrative body specifically established for this purpose – the Wasteland Commission (i. óbyggðanefnd) – which is the topic of this paper, and whose rulings are subsequently eligible for court review. |
