This paper asks whether (positive) corporate identity influences performance, exploring the direct linkage from corporate identity to performance, and the indirect linkage from identity to reputation that, in turn, is assumed to influence performance, reflected in a tentative theory-driven model. Our model is empirically illustrated by findings from a case study of a recognized Norwegian offshore company. The results indicate not only an indirect impact of corporate identity on performance through reputation but also a direct impact of corporate identity on performance. We further extend the model based on our findings by including the dynamic characteristics of such relationships into previous static models.
