We have calculated DT from Sentinel-3 altimetry satellites and tide gauges along the Norwegian coast and in the deep and narrow Sognefjord. Compared to coastal tide gauges, Sentinel-3 shows standard deviation of 6.9 cm, spatial correlation of 0.63, and temporal correlation of 0.93. These results are encouraging and indicate that Sentinel-3 may supplement tide-gauge observations for mapping DT in the outer coastal zone. In the Sognefjord, DT from Sentinel-3 is less accurate, i.e. the standard deviation was 10.4 cm, the spatial correlation 0.29, and the temporal correlations between 0.37 and 0.90. Land-contaminated radar pulses are the most likely cause of the lower accuracy of Sentinel-3 in the Sognefjord.
